Diatomaceous Earth adds opacity, matteness, has a lightening effect on all but the lightest colors, greatly increases absorbency and tooth, and thickens. A good ingredient for pastels or drawing grounds. Dry fill can be mixed in to any binder, or sprinkled on top of any binder while still wet to make paint. Make a swatch to test high dry fill loads (40% or more) to make sure that your paint has the flexibility and adhesion your job requires. Dry fill and acrylic may be used with thickener #1 or thickener #2 for sculptural texture pastes.
